If you Google Austin Murals, you will find tons of pages giving you Instagram goals for the perfect backdrop. My whole idea for writing this post is to take you through some of the less-treaded murals in Austin. You can either take an Austin Mural walking tour or explore a larger area from the comfort of your car. Or you can zoom around on the electric scooters! They are a super cool way to explore this weirdly beautiful city. I will be updating this post regularly. Murals in Austin Tell a Story I moved to Austin in 2019, and I have already talked about how astonishing I find this land! They say that let’s keep Austin weird. Austin is a land of creative people, a paradise for entrepreneurs, and culturally very diverse. Some murals have historical stories, some are part of a great marketing strategy, some are many artists’ canvases, and some are just there to maintain Austin’s character. The first-ever fresco gave birth to the mural culture in Austin… When a professor at the University of Texas painted folded hands amidst ghostly orbs on wet plaster, little did he know that he was making it for future artists to make the whole city their canvas. This was in 1950. This remains one of the best Austin murals, in my honest opinion! Credits: Spectrum Local News A heritage that needs to be preserved.. While you will find many murals on the street, they do pose threats from vandalization and property owners. Every mural tells a lot about the community this city shelters. Every community has a different story to tell, and these murals are the best way to tell them. Austin Murals on and around Burnet Road While the murals in South Congress remain the hot places to get your pictures clicked, these murals on Burnet Road and around it are pretty unexplored, and I love them! I am starting with them because they are literally “Austin Murals near me”. I will start with this one, a mural that tells it all! 1. I love ATX You wouldn’t find it on the internet. I told you these unexplored murals are my thing! I have shared the location on the map at the end of this post with other mural addresses. 2. The Copeland Mural This one is not on Burnet Road, but it’s magnificently visible when you drive on this Road, across the newly constructed Q2 stadium. This is at the entrance of the parking of The Copeland apartments on W Braker Lane. 3. Sweet! You Are Here I love how businesses also paint their walls so artistically and strategically at the same time. This one is at the Kelly Baking Co. on Burnet Road. I dragged Bae for this picture – because this is just love! Austin Murals on and around N Lamar Boulevard I can walk on this street for hours and keep exploring the amazing pieces of art. It’s always getting some new murals all the time! 4. Texan Cowboy and Landscape This definitely is a wall of a private home but I absolutely loved the complete Texan vibes of this mural. This is right behind the Lonestar Soccer Club. True, Austin made e live my dreams! 5. Ice Cream Wall This looks more like graffiti but this is just too cute! Though this graffiti has been removed, you can definitely find something interesting at this location! 6. Succulent Native Wall This is another mural on one of the stores. Located in the Lamar Business Park, Succulent Native is a cute li’l plant store. 7. Hard Candy Wall This lingerie store on North Lamar Boulevard has solid-coloured walls which are not exactly murals but give that extra pop of colours! These solid walls make excellent display pictures!! 8. Weird Austin Forever I love the creativity of this optical store – just so amazing! Austin Murals on and around 1st Street This place has the iconic Greetings from Austin mural. But let’s go further south! 9. You Make My Heart Sing Though Threadgill’s has closed this mural still remains! And this is definitely iconic! 10. Hearts and Shoes Just another wall! I found it very pretty and cute! Though this mural no longer exists, you can find some interesting murals around here! East Austin has my heart! 11. Lost in Austin – Lustre Pearl East Lustre Pearl is a popular hangout with great music, food and vibrant art walls! 12. Indian Murals at Nasha While Nasha has some good fusion delicacies, I love this place for the vibes and super pretty walls! I went to this place after a long day at work! Please forgive my damsel-in-distress look! 13. About Tacos and Lottery! This is a local restaurant called Juan in a Million. I stumbled upon it while taking a walk on East Cesar Chavez St. I will be back with more murals! Keep on checking this in!

  • Holi Cocktails | Turmeric Gin and Tonic

Holi Cocktails - I have to add my drinks to this list, right? Holi is just around the corner and I am sure looking for some Indianized boozy drinks is a task. Turmeric Gin and Tonic is one of my favourite drinks - it's refreshing and spicy! I have shared an instructional video here. I do get a lot of queries for immunity-boosting drinks. Honestly, I can never tell anyone to drink alcohol to boost immunity. But turmeric is gold! And if you don't add the gin, you have a very delicious immunity-boosting drink! Turmeric Tonic Turmeric is an important component of Indian cuisine. A turmeric tonic is my version of turmeric tea. The recipe is pretty simple - combining ginger and turmeric root for a vibrant yellow concoction - that's all you need to do! Turmeric Gin and Tonic This is a misnomer! This drink that I am making is more of a Turmeric Tonic and gin. I love how the ginger ale balances the taste of gin and finishes off this drink nicely. I am sharing the recipe for the cocktail and the turmeric tonic. You can enjoy as you like - with or without the gin! About this holi cocktail I love this cocktail for its vibrant colour. This is a very refreshing and light cocktail as compared to other traditional holi drinks. In my personal opinion, gin goes well with ginger. However, it's not a great choice for almond milk-based holi drinks! Turmeric Gin and Tonic Ingredients Turmeric Tonic 2 inch (fresh) turmeric root or 2 tablespoons of ground turmeric 2-inch fresh ginger root, grated 7-8 fresh cardamom pods 30ml honey 30ml lime juice 2 cup filtered water Gin and Turmeric Tonic 45ml Gin 90ml Turmeric Tonic Ginger ale, to top Ice Mint and Lime wheel for garnishing Instruction For the turmeric tonic, bring the water to boil Add all the ingredients and simmer for 5-7 minutes. Let it cool For the Turmeric Gin and Tonic, in a glass, add the ice, gin and turmeric tonic Top with ginger ale Garnish with Mint and Lime wheel Enjoy!!

  • Indian Cocktail Recipes | Golgappa Cocktail

Indian cocktails are always enticing. They are flavourful and effortless to make at home. I love to call this cocktail an Indian Michelada because it’s hot, spicy and sweet. And nothing can be more Indian than that! Golgappa shots are more or less the same, but it’s filling and less boozy! Well, that is never my type of cocktail. A Brief History of Golgappa Golgappas has always been my favourite Indian snack. They consist of deep-fried flatbread (called puries) filled with boiled potato, lentils or boiled chickpea, sweet tamarind chutney and paani (flavoured water). I love the sweet tamarind and date water more than the spicy and tangy mint–coriander water. Traditionally this North Indian snack is served with tangy and spicy mint – coriander water, but now you can get it in many other flavours. Some of them are mango, pomegranate and blackberry. Indian Cocktail Recipes: Golgappa Cocktail The best part about this cocktail is you can make it quicker than golgappas! Mint coriander chutney available in the market can be used in this recipe. And you can use the sweet tamarind chutney too. Mint coriander chutney is a staple in summers in many Indian homes. It is very easy to make at home too. Sharing all the recipes. You can also try this recipe at home, for some authentic golgappas. And if you don’t want to do any hard work at all, just add vodka to leftover golgappa water! This makes it the easiest Indian cocktail recipe! Rimming the cocktail glass with powdered sugar and chat masala (a blend of powdered cumin, dry mango and other Indian spices) gives the extra kick to this cocktail. This is a vodka-based cocktail but believe me, you won’t feel its existence. So, if you don’t like vodka, you still can try this! Enjoy this summer cocktail! Don’t drink and drive. It’s not fun! Golgappa Cocktail | Indian Michelada Ingredients 2 tsp Mint - Corriander Chutney (recipe in notes) 1 tsp Sweet Tamarind Chutney (optional, can also add samosa chutney) 30 ml Simple Syrup or Agave Nectar 45 ml Vodka 90 ml water Ice to shake Powdered sugar and chat masala for rimming the glass Instructions In a shaker add everything and give a good shake. Strain in a cocktail glass rimmed with sugar and chat masala Notes For the mint-coriander chutney, blend together fresh mint and cilantro leaves with Thai green chillies, lime juice and ginger julienne. Now, the proportions depend completely on your taste buds. Add chaat Masala and cumin powder to this paste.

  • Easy Whiskey Cocktails at Home | Mango Whiskey Sour

The only thing I am asked to share lately is a variety of easy whiskey cocktails at home. Now, I ultimately believe that you can only enjoy a good whiskey or scotch in its purest form. I love it on the rocks. But as a bartender, I have realized that whiskey is probably the most effortless spirit to work with because there are very few flavours you can experiment with when it comes to whiskey. For me, easy whiskey cocktails at home always draw a picture of a sour. Lemon juice balances every fancy flavour you might want to experiment with and brings out the best of your whiskey/scotch/bourbon. By the way, I don’t recommend making cocktails with scotch. No. Scotch is always sacred. Anyhow, I will be sharing some easy whiskey cocktails – mostly sour and some smash too. This one is my favourite easy whiskey cocktail at home. But before that, here is a brief history of this easy whiskey cocktail! Easy Whiskey Cocktails: Whiskey Sour History Whiskey sour dates back to the 19th century when sailors would have plenty of lime and lemon due to the danger of scurvy and, of course, barrels of whiskeys. Mixing these two with an experimental amount of water and sugar resulted in the modern-day whiskey sour. Mango Whiskey Sour Adding mango to any drink gives a very refreshing summer twist to it. In this sour, I am using fresh mango juice with zero pulp and lemon juice. I am not using sugar because mango already has fruit sugars. You can muddle some mint to give a refreshing taste to the drink. Enjoy! Drink Respnisbly. Mix drinks, NOT drinking and driving! Mango Whiskey Sour Ingredients 2 Oz(60 ml) Whiskey 2 Oz(60ml) Mango Juice 1/2 Oz (15ml) Lemon Juice Ice Instructions In a glass, stir together the liquids. Add in ice and stir again Enjoy! Notes This is a stirred drink. Add some muddled leaves or mint syrup to give a refreshing taste.

I thought of mixing them with some more alcohol to give me my kind of buzz. And the result turned out well. In this cocktail, I am giving the regular margarita a sparkly twist. I had with me a hard seltzer in pomegranate and ginger flavour. Both pomegranate and ginger goes really well with lemon. Similarly, berries, mint, orange, cider and peaches go well with lemon. You can experiment with them too!
