10 Best Selling Books of All Time.

Reading is definitely my one of the favorite activities. Being a curious reader is a good thing. For me, reading kind of liberates my mind. Though I am constantly looking for suggestions on books, apart from the new releases from my regular favorites, I sometimes search the internet for the recommendation for my reading shelf.

I am very old school. I love to read the hard copy of any book and refrain from using the Kindle unless the book in Kindle exclusive and I have to read it. I am very loyal to Amazon book-store for sticking to my old school habit.

Though I try to read almost every genre and style of writing, sometimes I just want to catch up with the world! So, I decided to look for the top selling books of all times. Not to my surprise, J. K.  Rowling and Dan Brown rule the chart.

If I treat the Harry Potter series as one, here is a list of top 10 best-selling books (according to their sales, data source: Business Insider and Amazon). This list is for English language books and is not ranked.

1. The Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling

This book out of the seven book series wins hands down after having more than 107 million copies sold, alone.

2. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

Though this is certainly not my personal favorite of the Robert Langdon series the world has a different opinion about it!

3. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

The classics are called so because of a reason, isn’t it? And how much we all love the movie Narnia!

4. And Then There were None by Agatha Christie

Out of the 200 billion copies that Agatha Christie has sold across 66 titles, 100 million copies are sold of this book alone. This one is surely not to be missed!

5. The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien

Even though the trilogy of the Lord of the Rings became widely popular after the movies by the same name, the three books together could sell 150 million copies where as it is estimated that over 100 million copies of Hobbit have been sold alone, worldwide.

6. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

This book's popularity again proves that sometimes the most popular work might not be the best work of an artist. This globally the most popular work of Coelho till date.

7. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

A classic, this undoubtedly is the highest selling English novel with more than 200 million copies sold worldwide since its release in 1859.

8. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol

The classic literature is a clear winner in this list! This is also one of the largest selling books of all times in the history of English novels. I personally like this book as this was my first novel ever.

9. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
This self-help book, written in 1931, remains undoubtedly the best seller in its category.

10. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

This is the best-selling adolescent book. Surrounded by li’l controversies when published, this emerged out to be the most read books of its times.

Strangely enough, the top selling English novels are mostly fantasy themed books. Seems like we all prefer living in a world of our own!

Till the next time I find something interesting to talk about books, take care! Happy Reading.
